 For reading this week we had to read the book After The Spill. Then we had to challenge the text by asking hard thought questions and make people re think about what they were reading about and we needed to ask a lot of in depth questions. Here is my work:

My Tūranagawaewae

 My Tūranagawaewae

For writing this week we had to write about our Tūranagawaewae other known as "your place to stand" I chose Christchurch as it is were I was born and were I grew up and have the best memories from. I feel like I connect more to Christchurch compared to any other place. It was also a show not tell writing so we couldn't write what our Tūranagawaewae actually was people had to guess!

Here is my summery about my Tūranagawaewae.

My Tūranagawaewae, my place to stand. Salty seas, grainy grounds from the beach water immersing below my feet. Walking dogs with the pier lit up… the warm salty chips against my lips having the view of the waves washing the sea shore. In town with flower gardens, libraries and shops, statues and songs played by people who are here for the joy of the city, native wildlife is everywhere you look, kiwis and plants all around, sun rises and the beach, and looking after the community is really important to us. That is my Tūranagawaewae.

Writing!

This week for writing we had to do a poem Including Ngai Tahu and the life that we live now. I was exited to learn about this work and I hope you like it! here it is! 

Over 800 years ago 

Riding the optimistic ocean 

Upon a waka ancestors find their homes

How the times have changed from 1220

“Crash” a tragedy has awoken, the ground is rumbling 

The people started stumbling to the thought of their beloved home being destroyed as the memories start to fade away,

Black and white is all we see nowhere to run 

Stunned as they showed their emotion for endless

hours  

Ngai Tahu didn’t see what was coming next for the future 

Population for it was covid

This time we couldn’t get away from it

The world was shut down no where to go except for your homes. 

Otautahi is stronger than ever facing tragedies left and right but we all are strong together so we are no longer afraid of things we cannot control.

Reading!

 For reading this week we had to pick out of 2 tasks but I decided to do both! I chose one to do around The mosque shooting and one around Venn diagram and 2 different settings. This task was so fun to do and I really enjoyed it. Here is my work and I really hope you enjoy it.

Math!

 This week for math we were learning about Translation, Rotation, Enlargement and Reflection we had to make a Kōwhaiwhai patterns using the designs that I had created. I learnt so many new things this week like all of the geometry things we were learning. Here is a picture:

As you can see in every box I had everything we were learning, It was a kind of hard task but I was happy when I finished it as well as learning so much new things.

Graphys Graghs!

For math this week we did graphs. We collected all of our data either from a website or within the school. We focused on doing something that has to do with our Turangawaewae. After we collected all of our data we decided what graph we wanted to use, I picked a bar graph for mine. My question was how often do some people in kaupeka hub use Te Reo Maori. We then answered the questions we needed to from the hub site. Here is a picture of my work:

What could I improve on? 

Math week!

 For math this week we were focusing on communicating and interpret locations and directions, using compass directions, distances, and grid references. We used a map website to learn directions using the ruler tool. We started from Kaiapoi Pa Road to Onawe peninsula. We had to get the answers to 6 different questions that were on the site. Such as these: 

1. Find and plot your current location as a coordinate (Kaiapoi Pa) - where is this in relation to the centre of Ōtautahi?

2. Find and plot your destination as a coordinate (Ōnawe Pa) - where is this in relation to the centre of Ōtautahi?

3. You must measure distance between the two locations ( remember the roads we have today may not be your chosen path)

4. What is the most direct route from one place to the other

5. Include the compass directions both locations are from the centre of Ōtautahi

6. See if you can give the co-ordinates for St. Francis: ( No picture)
