Lego time
Yesterday a lady named Rachel who works at house of bricks came to our hub to teach us about team building. she had three challenges for us to do. Those challenges were... the team that could build the highest tower, bridge building and your bridge had to be 30 to 40cm and last but not least we had to build two cars one out of Technic Lego blocks and one out of normal Lego blocks then after everyone had finished making there invention we tested how fast our cars could go. Caoimhe and me were in a group our cars did not go that far.😄
what is your greatest build that you have made out of Lego?

Innovation time
This terms PBL focus is innovation. To start the challenge off we rotated around 3 classes with different challenges. But I am just going to talk about my favourite one that I went to. It was trying to get a toy car to the end of the table without touching it. The materials we had were... one balloon, some string, some tape and as much plastic straws as needed. My team was a group of three and their names are Lydia, Frankie and Ariella (myself ). This is what we did. We filled the balloon up with a tiny bit of water and then we tied a little bit of string to it. We then attached it to a plastic straw. When it was time to try our invention, we pushed the car with our balloon and it took .9 of a second to get across the table. Guess what!? We won . Our car reached the other side of the table the quickest and was the most creative! WIN WIN!
Have you invented something before and if you have what was it?

unreal reading!
In reading this term our focus has been looking at Articles around climate change
I have learnt: That there are specific things that you can put in compost bins and that there is a pacific garbage patch that is 2 times the size of Texas.
new words that I have discovered are:
methane: cow farts
compost: food scraps such as banana peels, apple cores and much more.
greenhouse gasses: when energy from the sun hits the earths surface, some is absorbed but a lot is reflected back as heat.
I have created a climate change strike poster
Have you learnt about climate change and if not do you want to?

Just one person can make a big change and that could be you
This week Erica came to our hub and talked about saving the planet and her business that she does to help the environment and how we can help the environment our selves here is some stuff that she said...
These are all of the products that she has made and why she did. The first one was medal straws and at the top there was a safety thing so it would be safer the reason why she did this is because plastic straws are a big fashion well in this case a big environment no no!!! and here is the bonus point you don't feel guilty when your drinking something with a plastic straw. the next one is a coffee cup because the ones that you get from the coffee shop are very bad for the environment and they are single used witch means people only use them once but the ones that Erica has done you can use them all the time with out throwing it out. Next she had for ever pegs you might be wondering what that is they are pegs that will never rust you could take them on a boat and travel the world and they would not rust or fall of it was a brilliant idea. After that she talked about her spork if you don't know what that is it is a spoon and a fork together she had much more stuff as well.
People are already trying to fix this problem and trying to go plastic free because they really care about the environment and really want to make a change to the world you know if you really like eating fish one day you might catch a fish and cut it up then you might not even be able to eat it because it has to much plastic in it the more you use plastic the less fish, turtles and other sea creatures there are.
Start helping the environment today just one human could make a huge change!!!
What does your school or your family do to help the environment? or what have you done this week to help the environment?

The third legs !!
CROSS COUNTRY
This week on Thursday 2nd of may the whole school went to Walter park for cross country. the year 7 8's were first then it was the 1 2's after that was the 3 4's then it was finally us the year 5 6's.
We had to walk to Walter park and back me and cCoimhe had really sore ankles but luckily we made it back to school safley! and on the way there we were really exited but that was good because then we would not be nerves. on the way back we were really badly coughing when we were trying to talk we kept on doing it so I thought I would loose my voice!
the first 6 would go to zones but that was only year 5 and up so it was my first year! and I came third so I got into zones! my friend Caoimhe was the one who came first then Elise came 2nd I thought it would be really fun but it was not really that great.
does your school do cross country and if you do, do you like it?

KINDNESS is in us ALL
PBL - Term 1
This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about kindness and the big question was: How can we build community through our actions?
First, we explored some collaborative activities and discussed how we could include kindness and build a sense of community through our actions at camp. Next, we were organised into groups where we had to unpack the above question. In our groups we considered how we could spread community and kindness through our entire school community. We decided that we would offer something that was free and would make others happy.
We created an action plan and decided to do games with juniors ( which is the year 1/2 )
Reflection:
For our final product our group did playing games with the juniors on Mondays and Fridays half of the group went on the the backfield on Monday and the other half did it on the front court then on Friday we switched. It was hard at times but when we finished it was so worth it. The games we played were rob the nest, capture the flag ( this was on the backfield ) then the other half played doge ball, ball elimination and non stop tag. the people that were in my group were Corinne, Caoimhe, Santara, Ethan, Zac, Julian, Amelia, Lily and Eilish but when we halved I was with Santara, Corinne, Caoimhe, Lily and Zac but he only came when we were half way through it because he was helping the other half of the group. When it was time to finish we highfived, gave them a compliment such as good gob that was great you were amazing and much more and we also gave them lolly pops that really put a smile on there face.
How did our action build a sense of community in the school? by getting to know the people that have just started school, the people that I haven't seen before and now people know who I am as well so maybe when we see each other we could wave and even some of the year 1/2 could have met some new people.
I contributed by making sure that everyone had a say, agreed with everything everyone else said, and that all the year 1/2 were included and everyone had the job of making people happy while we did it.
I think the PBL might impact on others by getting more into games, working together as a team to win games, good team sports, making sure everyone gets a turn of getting the ball or what ever equipment they are using, for the game being fair and that playing games for others is a nice thing to do and it could make someone really happy!
What I learned about working with others was that if you all work together your idea gets better and better and funner for the people who are doing it and if you don't you can't really say everyone did it so if the group isn't working try and fix it and if they just don't like it try make it for interesting for them. and that if people are shy try help them to get a say in what you are doing because then they will feel more included!
if your school does PBL what do you do and what is your favourite thing that you have done so far?
