The Spanish Flu
Did you know that The Spanish flu was the deadliest disease in history!?
The Spanish flu affected many countries and people around the world. 50 million people had the Spanish flu and 20 million of them sadly passed away and so that means 30 million people who had the Spanish flu very luckily survived the deadly disease.
It is unknown exactly which particular strain of influenza that caused the pandemic came from. However, the 1918 flu was first observed in Europe, areas of Asia and America. Before spreading to almost every single part of the planet within months!
Despite the fact that 1918 wasn't isolated into the one place it became known as the Spanish flu all around the world. This is because Spain was the one who got hit the hardest with this disease.
Even Spain’s king reportedly contracted this flu! In Fact more U.S soldiers died from the Spanish flu than who was killed in the battle in the war. Forty percent of the U.S navy was hit by the flu. While 36 percent of the army became ill. And troops moving around the world in crowded ships and trains helped to spread the killer virus.
A few locations were immune to the 1918 flu in America victims ranged from residents of major cities to those of remote Alaskan communities. Even president Woodrow Wilson reportedly contracted the flu in early 1919 while negotiating the Treaty of Versailles which ended world war one!
Some believe infected soldiers spread the disease to other military camps across the country, then brought it overseas. In March 1918, 84,000 American soldiers headed across the Atlantic and were followed by 118,000 more the following month
I hope you have learnt something new today from my report!!!
